An Optimistic thread!

Hi

Just to cheer up the 'really frustrated',

Please say

(1) How many of you were retrenched and found jobs?

(2) How many of you are 'glued' to your current job?

I am on 'choice 2'

I resigned from my previous job to concentrate on doing my MCSE. Then got the current job with the help of my MCSE. And now I'm more or less 'glued' to my current job.

There was a 2-month gap in between my previous and current jobs.

I interviewed for my current job and did not hear anything back for a while and got feed up with my old job and left it with no options and no job lined up an only enough money to get me by 1 or 2 months and then was out of work for a month but during that month I took that savings and went and finished my A+ and ended up getting the job and have been working here for 9 months on contract and I start offically for the company on monday and they even gave me a 14% raise to come over from contractor to full time plus great benefits. And now I am glued to present employeer but would definitly like to move up in the IT DEPT

Two 'good' news.

Hope to hear more.

I use to do network/desktop support and I gave it up for McDonalds. I remember my interview with the McDonald's manager who asked "Why do you want a job at McDonalds?". I said, "because I am a McDonalds Certified Professional-MCP". I tell you guys that it is so easy to get a job at Mickey D's if you have an MCP.

I thought you were a IT professional with 20 years experience working for a government agency doing unix and database support? (not network and DESKTOP support)

your gospel of how worthless our pursuit of IT advancement would be a lot more entertaining if you can keep your story of how the mighty have fallen consistant.

how about this for your next advanture, that you are demoted from McD manager trainee to washroom sweeper because they want MCSD (McDonald Certified Salad Dicer) in management?

comeon, I expect higher quality from you! aim for success!

Come on, don't be modest JC! You were senior management at WorldCom/Enron/Andersens right?

No need to be shy about a bit of bad luck with the auditing. You'll be back on your feet in no time!

It's easy to get a job at Mickey D's anyway. All you need to be able to do is say, "Welcome to McDonald's, can I take your order."

Working on: Having Fun

I was laid off from a fun startup - hired back 6 weeks later - reorganized the management team to a bunch of thieves and was laid off again exactly 7 days before Christmas! Thieves who aren't even considerate! Those Bastards! Anyhow, I have spent the time collecting unemployment and studying for 210 and 215 and redecorating the house when I need to take my head out of the books. I've been looking for work casually, not determined enough. But what I see is unrealistic requirements for rediculous pay. So I decided rather than work really hard for little money to not work at all for a little money and improve some skills sets along the way until the job market rights itself again.

I'm one of the lucky few with a spouse that can afford to support me while I wait in line with everyone else for the shitheads at companies like Enron and WorldCom to find another way to screw the general public.

I guess this is not one of the happier success stories of our times, huh?

Honestly, I'm not bitter
