Tue 70-216 Question of the Day
And today's poser is ....
Q5. Enrious is the chief tech over at MuntabTech. He has built a Windows 2000 Server that runs the accounting package that MuntabTech uses to keep track of the company finances. This Windows 2000 Server is a member server in the MuntabTech network and the server name is Muntyacc. Muntyacc also has a modem attached which can be used to dial out to other computers.
At a different location there is a server running FreeBSD. This FreeBSD server does not have an internet connection. Muntyacc dials into this FreeBSD server via a modem connection and transmits a small amount of data once every three days.
Which remote access protocols can Enrious use on Muntyacc to establish the connection? Choose all that apply
A. Serial Line Internet Protocol
B. Layer Two Tunnelling Protocol
C. Microsoft RAS Protocol
D. Point-to-Point Protocol
E. Point-to-Point Tunnelling Protocol
Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

I'm not quite sure, but...
A and D.
PPTP and L2TP require handshaking.
RAS is Microsoft only.

Sorry for the delay in posting the answer but have been busy .... and the answer is ....
Correct Answer: A and D
The two protocols support for remote access connections in Windows 2000 are Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) and Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP). Windows 2000 operating systems can be PPP clients or SLIP clients. They can also host PPP connections. However, they can not host SLIP connections. Muntyacc is the client in this situation, not the server. Depending on their configuration, FreeBSD servers can act as PPP and SLIP hosts (though you won't need to know this for your exam).
Layer Two Tunnelling Protocol (L2TP) and Point-to-Point Tunnelling Protocol (PPTP) are protocols used in Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). A VPN allows two computers to communicate with each other through existing connections to the Internet. Since the remote computer in the above example is not connected to the Internet, L2TP and PPTP will not be used.
The Microsoft RAS protocol is an older networking protocol used on clients running Windows NT version 3.1, Windows for Workgroups, Microsoft MS-DOS and Microsoft LAN Manager.
