Page 66 Question 70-216.04.01.001...
In this question Tom is having a problem with accessing resources on Server A.
The valid answers listed are..
a) On Toms computer, change the default gateway to 10.96.0.1
There is also an option e) listed...
e) On Toms computer, change the default gateway to 10.96.0.1
On Toms computer, change the subnet mask to 255.224.0.0
The diagram shows three subnets using the following IP addressing...
10.32.x.y
10.64.x.y
10.96.x.y
From the information provided it is possible to determine that at least a subnet mask of 255.224.0.0 is required (ie. 8+3 bits = 11 bits in network part of IP address). It is however possible that that a netmask of 255.240.0.0 is in use allowing for 12 bits in the network part of the IP address. It is impossible to resolve this ambiguity and by leaving the netmask at 255.240.0.0 it will possibly cause excessive use of the router (destination IP on local subnet). in this case e) potentially offers an answer that fixes what are two possible faults.
I would therefore see two ways out of this...
a) Provide additional sunbetting information in the question.
b) Do not provide an answer that involves a subnet of 255.240.0.0 or higher values (eg. 255.248.0.0).
