The question relates to the configuration of DHCP and DNS at a branch office.

QUESTION:
Your company consists of a home office and three branch offices in Dallas,
Texas. You are the administrator for the companies Windows 2000 Server
network. The network contains a DHCP server using Domain Name System
(DNS).

You want to configure the MS WIndows 2000 Professional client computers at each branch office to dynamically configure TCP/IP.

How can you accomplish this task?

a) From the Network And Dial-up Connections group, right-click the network connection to configure, and click Properties. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) component, and click Properties. Click Obtain IP Address Automatically option and click OK.

b) From the Network And Dial-up Connections group, right-click the network connection to configure, and click Properties. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) component, and click properties. Click Obtain DNS Address Automatically option and click OK.

c) ...

d) ...

CORRECT ANSWER ACCORDING TO BOOK:
A

MY COMMENTS:
These are two fold. First up the wording in the question "The network contains a DHCP server using Domain Name System (DNS)." is poor. DHCP does not itself have a dependency on DNS other than to supply DNS information to clients, or to perform dynamic DNS updates for clients. It think the question wording intent was to state that the DHCP server is setup to provide DNS information to clients being DHCPed. This is a more minor matter.

The real problem is that for a client to get its IP address and DNS settings from the DHCP server it will be necessary for A) and B) to be selected in the answers. Only selecting A) will result in an IP address being allocated by DHCP but the DNS IP addresses will be statically configured.
