Question about Banners

I have read different things about when the banner motd displays :

One book says on all connections and another says at login. Anyone know the real answer and what Cisco would be looking for if asked on the exam?

it only displays when you tell it to (default is login locally thoug I think)

i've set up a banner (using defaults) and it displayed when I logged on via console but not when I used telnet (I think this is what your asking)

So for Telnet you need 'banner incoming' ...OK Does a banner set with 'banner exec' really show on all connections?
