Installation Question
This is probably a stupid question and the answer is right in my face and I'm just not seeing it, but here goes:
If I install new software as Admininstrator on a user's W2K machine, it does one of two things after I log off and the user logs on: Either the new software doesn't show up in the user's profile, or (in the case of Office) it refuses to run because of 'access denied' problems.
The easiest work-around I've found is to go to the server (NT 4, sp6) and give the user Domain Admin rights. Then I sign on to the local box as the user and install the software. I then log off, take away the Domain Admin rights, and when the user logs back on the software works perfectly.
But, that's just a cheap hack!! Help! What's the right way?
Thank you all.

OMG!!! Take away admin rights from users ASAP!!!
This being said, you may want to install the software as admin, and then copy the administrator profile to the "all users" profile and see if it fixes your problems...

Good idea.
O.K. I'll give the "all users" profile switch a try then. Thanks.

I agree!!!
I was gonna suggest the same thing, but Freak already nailed it! That should solve your problem.

WOW!!! Giving everyone full domain admin rights is like jumping into a shark tank with a chum suit on your body. Your just asking for trouble. Any way, what freak said should take care of the problem.
