Advice please

Hi,

I've just passed my Oracle DBA exams and I'm figuring I need to learn UNIX in a big way and alot of Oracle seems to run on Solaris.

Are there any personal edition or single use versions available from Sun and how much are they? I've taken a look at the Sun site and its a bit confusing so I thought I'd ask here.

Any help/advice would be hugely appreciated.

I'm running an pent 3 500 with win2K at the moment if thats of any relevance.

Thanks in advance

Go to http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html
There You'll find the order form for Solaris media kit.

As you find out from others the best way to go about learning Solaris is with a Solaris box. They do make a version for Intel but you'll not get threw the questions about open boot which is on the Sparc boxes. Beg borrow or steal a Sun box, like an Ultra 5 or 10 which you can get on ebay for about 250. For another 50 you can get the Solaris CD's with Oracle. Now you can build your server and learn Oracle better. You might wnat to get the Bill Caulkins book as a study guide and if you go out into Yahoo groups and search you will find the real Sun Study guides in pdf form for downloading. Good luck and have fun with it.
