MCSA After MCSE
Hi All,
Was just wondering about this exam, Is it worth while to write this exam even if you've completed your mcse?
Thanks
Trevor

MCSE holds more weight and merit over MCSA.
But it is another notch to show achievement acquired

I wouldn't have bothered, except that I teach this stuff and I like to have knowledge of the tests I prepare my students for... if you have $125 to spare, then why not?

If it is free for you (company training budget), or you have money to blow, then by all means take the exam. As Cyberdude says it is another feather in your cap.
If the case is otherwise however then I wouldn't bother. If you are an MCSE, and you have the goods, then the MCSA is hardly going to matter in terms of job applications etc.
I always thought the MCSA was an intermediate step to becoming an MCSE or that it was aimed more for the administrator level that didn't require the design exams in order to conduct their duties.
Anyway that is what I have to say about it. And in case you are wondering, I intend to sit the exam to determine whether it is suitable in my workplace rather than placing all our emphasis on qualifying each and every person as an MCSE.
Keep Smiling.

I agree with Johnno.
When the beta of 218 was out, I already have my MCSE. So I didn't get invited to do the beta.
When the exam comes live, I told my boss about it and asked if the company is willing to sponsor me for it. He said go ahead so I went ahead and passed the exam. Since my daily job is doing technical support and troubleshooting Windows NT and 2000, there was much problem for me. Plus I'm used to how Microsoft exams are like. So I only did one week of study on study guides before going for the exam.
Johnno,
It's sufficient to be just MCSA if one's duty is to maintain, troubleshoot and provide technical support to existing Windows 2000 network. You can save a lot of training and exam cost too.

I also plan to do 218 after I finish my W2k MCSE. I wish I could have used it for 1 of my electives but at this stage I still need 1 design exam. My other 2 electives are Proxy 2.0 & Exchange 5.5, . Point is, the reason I'll go for both is 1: employer pays for exams, 2. employer pays a token bonus for each cert.

If you are already an MCSE, the knowledge should already be held. I took it on a whim with no study, and passed. Albeit, not an easy exam but definetely a nice refresher!
