Tue 70-216 Question of the Day
And today's poser is ....
Q56. You are the administrator for your company's Windows 2000 network and you have a Windows 2000 Server computer that is your WINS server. You have several places where you would like backups of the WINS database to be placed:
C:\WINNT\System32\WINS (an NTFS drive)
D:\backup (a FAT drive)
\\MAIN\backup (an NTFS partition)
G:\WINS (a tape drive)
You use the WINS management console to setup the WINS database backups. Which one of the locations will not be a valid option?
A. C:\WINNT\System32\WINS (an NTFS drive)
B. D:\backup (a FAT drive)
C. \\MAIN\backup (an NTFS partition)
D. G:\WINS (a tape drive)
Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

I'll go with D. Although you can backup to a FAT volume or a network share, it is not recommended according to MS's WINS help file.

Don't know why someone would put backup on a network share. Seems not the right "Practice". Tape drive should work, if not why would they call them "backup drive". They are really a legend.
C. \\MAIN\backup (an NTFS partition)

And the answer is ....
Correct Answers: C
The WINS management console allows you to perform all WINS management steps in an easy-to-use tool. Most WINS functions can be carried out from here.
In this scenario, you want to backup the WINS database to several locations. WINS database backups can only be placed on local drives. Therefore, the \\MAIN\Backup location, which is the UNC name for a network drive, is not a valid backup path.
All other paths listed are local WINS paths. A backup to these drives will be successful. It does not matter if the drive you are backing up to uses the FAT file system or the NTFS file system.
