Angry Windows ME TCP/IP (?) Problem

I have a problem connecting to a Dial-up TCP/IP Connection to British Telecom's Internet service.

Let me describe:
Modem: USR External 56k (Bought on Saturday) works with Unix, connecting to the same connection perfectly.
Operating System: WinME. Will connect to the Internet (and show the "connected" icon in the tool bar), transmit and recieve around 400 bytes and then refuse to do ANYTHING, including ping. Have tried uninstalling Dial-up networking and reinstalling again to no avail ... then a colleague mentioned this group.

Anyone got any ideas???

Many thanx

Reinstall TCP/IP. Hmmm is there a MS KB article on it - 'cos its something I've never attempted (or needed to).

DNS is correct. Same connection on this computer as other computer - no problems there.

Have tried pinging IP addresses & URL's.

Help!
