sysprep.exe vs riprep.exe

Would I be correct is saying that the main difference between sysprep.exe and riprep.exe is that sysprep.exe prepares your system for imaging, and then you need to use 3rd party disk imaging software to create the image...

and riprep.exe prepares your system and creates the image without the need for 3rd party software...

Is this correct?

Slightly confused

Have a look

at this:

and:

Should clear up the confusion.

I think riprep.exe is for RIS installation , but sysprep is for installation from the hard disk directly. Hope to hear other comments.

From what I know about sysprep and riprep, the big difference is that sysprep doesn't need the setup program. You send a copy of the original computer's harddrive to local computers by executing (or using) sysprep, so you can get the installation done in a short time. If you execute sysprep, the existing data on the local computers will be erased. Plus, sysprep delete local computers' SID.

If I stated something wrong, please correct me.

Riprep: is used to configure RIS.
Allows to prepare and include any
application to be loaded on the RIS
server.
Act a lot like sysprep.exe, but removes
in addition to creating an image, the
unique attributes,such as SID's and
computer name.
RIPrep.exe creates image of OS and any
installed applications, similar to 3rd
party disk imaging application.
It can only make image of C partition
and when you apply image to computer
via RIS, any existing partition are
deleted. !!!!

Sysprep : used with unattended file
installation.Removes the unique
elements of a fully installed computer
system so that it can be duplicated
using imaging software 3rd party,such
as Ghost or Drive Image Pro.

Hope it help's...
