Another two motherboards
There have been a few requests for motherboard pics since I posted the last ones, so here is another pair.
Board A
Board B
Please, all of you, like me, who haven’t got A+, have a shot at comparing and contrasting (as they say) these two boards.
1. Form factors
2. Riser cards
3. Processors (board A is socket 5, sorry you can’t see the pin pattern)
4. Memory
5. CMOS batteries
6. Expansion slots/combo slots
7. Ports
8. Power connectors
9. Onboard features
10. Anything else you care to mention
Pete

This is what I believe the two boards are.
Board A
Form factor: NLX
Riser: riser card
Processor: P1 up to 133MHZ
Memory: 4x72pin SIMMs
Battery: Dallas semiconductor clock/battery (just visible behing the riser)
Expansion slots: 3x16bit ISA
2xPCI (both combo with ISA slots)
Power connector: AT
Board B
Form factor: LPX
Riser: backplane
Processor: PII/Celeron
Memory: 2x168pin DIMMs
Battery: CR-2032 lithium battery
Expansion slots: 2x16bit ISA
3xPCI (1 combo with ISA slot)
Power connector: ATX
USB ports x2
I haven’t come across many pictures of NLX boards, and none of the ones I have found have been good.
One of the significant differences between the NLX and the LPX is that the backplane in the NLX is attached to the carcass of the machine and the board itself is merly clipped into the backplane. This should allow the board to be easily removed. It should slide out sideways, prised from the slot at the base of the backplane by using a lever attached to the base of the case. The one in the picture runs on white nylon runners. (I found this lever almost impossible to use and would not have liked to have had to extract the board from a properly funtioning machine)
Other improvements over the LPX are apparently better air-flow and less clutter in the box.
cm2gj,
Like your description. As Nobby says, good eyesight!
The 26 pin connector on board A is a video expansion connector then?
Where's the video memory on board A?
Pete

Thanks!!! you make a good description too!!! in board A look right ahead the LPT port and see two sockets and two chips. chips are memory video onboard, sockets for expansion.
The Dallas RTC at side of the Bios is a Ds22 because the white point is 1 conn in this box.
See the clean cmos jumper at right of the cmos chip.
aparently the jumper at the side of video memory onboard is for disable onboard video.
and yes, the 26 pin connector is a expansion video connector.... of course....
THANKS for your explanation!! of NPX & NLX!!
