quote: Yep, definite Monday Morning treat for several of my Co-Workers!
Heres something thats even better..fake format
Heres the description "Fake Format mirrors the Windows Format functionality. Once the program is run, no matter what button is pushed, the program simulates formatting the specified drive. The user is unable to stop, interrupt, or cancel this format. Once the fake formatting is complete, the standard Windows format summary appears. Once the summary screen is closed, the user can exit the program."
The whole thing looks totally real and even displays the proper name of your primary partition. The real way to get someone is if you access to their machine. What I have done a few times is to put the app on floppy then quickly copy to the root of c:. Then I take their most used icon (say explorer) or something else I know they will for surely use and change the properties of it to point the c:\format.exe. Works like a charm, I almost made my ex girlfriends dad have a heart attack. An alternative way to get a friend is to ask if they have heard about the new tcp/ip patch that is needed for explorer. They say no, I say "oh no" I'll send it to you or some other junk, rename the file to something MS would call it and icq it to em. My one buddy panicked and hit the power on his puter. I almost busted my gut. The best thing about this app is once you execute it, even hitting the cancel button will cause it to start.

I've seen some sites that do actually try to format your drive (nasty!) and of course others that downloads a trojan horse.
