Need Advice
Here I am, working for an accounting firm, making $37K per year. I've got three years of really good experience. I started a little over three years ago as a Network Tech at $28K. Basically, I did network and desktop support for internal users. In the year and a half I was there, I received raises to $35K. Not too bad. Now, I'm working for another accounting firm as a Network Consultant. We support about 175 clients ranging from small (4 to 8 users) to large networks (250 to 750 users). We perform the whole gamut of support from design, order and implementation to administrative to training. Currently, I have a BS degree in Info Systems and 6 certs (A+, N+, MCPx2-NT4, MCPx2-W2K). I perform network installations using W2K Server, SBS, Exhange, and Citrix. I also meet with clients to ensure they have a high-degree of "touch." I work with vendors to order everything needed for clients. I write SOP's for workstation and server builds so that all implementations are same. I sell compaq equipment to SMB clients. I'm sure I'm missing something, but oh well. I work 50 to 60 hours per week and am supposed to be receiving bonuses, but haven't yet seen a dime. Since I was hired one year ago, client uptime has been increased by 40% (management info, not mine). Before I took over the sales, an average month was $40K. Now, I'm doing $30K per week.
I went to my management last to ask for a raise. I showed them all the metrics that proved my greater worth. They agreed but told me I'm an above average wage earner for our area.
I'm thinking of moving to either Dallas or Phoenix. I feel I have a lot to offer another organization.
What do you all think? Thanks in advance!

damn....if you're getting an "above average" salary with your credentials and experience, I'm staying away from Albaquerque!! I think your employer is giving you a line of #*&*! I'd start looking real hard, and if you're willing to relocate, you should find something that pays at least 10K more than you're getting.
Good Luck in your hunt.

I agree, I would be trying to find something else. Sounds to me like you stay busy and deserve more than what you are getting.

Thanks everyone.
I just bought the sunday newspapers from both Phoenix and Dallas. Plus, I got a buddy at Southwest Airlines and they have a position open. Nothing here in ABQ. I guess moving is, more likely than not, the answer.

It sounds to me like you have all of the makings of a good consultant. I think that you should find out how to market yourself and make a good buck on your own. Check with local users groups, local businesses that have some kind of a niche that is not being serviced by other companies (especially not your company). Start your own.... and remember what it felt like when someone didn't pay you what you're worth.
Cheers!
