Mon 70-216 Question of the Day
Today's poser is as follows:
Q10. You are performing maintenance on your DNS Server service. You need the following task performed:
1. The primary zone is deleted.
2. The primary zone is removed from the registry.
3. The primary zone is removed from Active Directory.
4. The zone is to reappear as an Active Directory-integrated primary zone after deletion.
The following actions are performed:
1. From the Advanced Tab on the DNS server properties page in DNS Console, you set the Load Data on Startup field equal to Registry.
2. You delete the zone.
3. You answer NO to the Delete from Active Directory question.
4. From the Advanced Tab on the DNS server properties page in DNS Console, you set the Load Data on Startup field equal to Active Directory and registry.
5. DNS server polls the directory for changes.
Which task or tasks are performed from these actions? (Choose all that apply)
A. The primary zone is deleted.
B. The primary zone is removed from the registry.
C. The primary zone is removed from Acitive Directory.
D. The zone is to reappear as an Active Directory-integrated primary zone after deletion.
Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

Huge question Wbafrank !
A. Yes, as it mentioned the primary zone is deleted in step 2.
B. Yes, quite probably, the registry part is taken care of when the zone is deleted. I don't think Microsoft designer's Style of doing things would ask you to meddle with the registry.
C. Nope, as in step 3, 'no'option was chosen to refrain from deleting from AD.
D. I don't think, it's that simple, more configurations needed.
My bet is A- The primary zone is deleted, and 'B '-the primary zone is removed from the registry.

A is a given, I actually like D, because you are telling DNS to load from AD or registry. I don't see where B or C are accounted for.

And the Answer is ....
Correct Answers: A, B and D
You can set the Load Data on Startup field from the Advanced tab on the DNS Server properties page in the DNS console. When deleting a zone, if this field equals Registry, you will be asked whether you want to delete the zone from the Active Directory. If you answer No, the zone is removed from the registry and not from the Active Directory. Answering Yes removes it from both and will prevent it from reappearing.
If you have not deleted from Active Directory and you change the Load Data on Startup field to equal From Active Directory and Registry, the next time the DNS server polls the directory for changes, the zone will reappear.

What happened in-order to become the D? I think I 'm lost.
Thanks !

When you set the DNS server to boot from AD or registry, it does just that. When it starts, it looks in the regisrty for AD info and searches for other AD replicas to get info from, that's why it came back. You deleted it from the registry, but answered no to delete from AD, so another AD DNS server in the zone provided replica for it to copy.
