new ccnp exams
I was checking with VUE, and cisco is bringing out new switching, routing, remote and support exams, the beta have to be tested by feb 12 and they are £45 each and 3 hour long
they start with the new number of
641-603
641-604
641-605
641-606
so from this i would think the 640 series will be discontinued by august, same thing happened 2years ago

What is the usual trend for this? I mean, should someone plan on taking the new tests instead of the 640-503/506 tests? How should one proceed if one is going for CCNP now?

Oh well....
bsci was 641-900 on that was August last yr. there's only 640-900 these days. I dun the 641 additions and modifications may have their way into the 640 track and not displace the latter..
Looks like NP 3.0 is on its way already huh?!?
Checked out cisco.com but no official word or exam outlines from them...trust them to do things like these...and confuse pple like us
Keep this thread going...I'll think i'll have to make contigency plans...dun want take an exam that's gonna expire in a few months' time...
Can anyone with the latest info share it with us?!?

see, now I'm really confused...
what i meant to say was that the 641 changes may be incorporated into the 640, and not displace the latter....

I will proceed faster. Am still studying for BCRAN. I hate rushing this stuff. I have finished 1/2 the book.
I'm setting new personal records for reading Guide Books and staying in on nice sunny days!

Hmmmm....
I've completed 2 so far and I am working on my third at the moment. I had planned to take this either late Feb or early Mar. Does this mean we will have a choice of either old exam or beta until they actually change?
Sounds like a bit of a mystery to me!!

I did ccna1.0 2 years ago and i remember in
march 2000 , cisco brought out the beta exams for 640-507 in march 2000 and then on 31/07/2000 they discontinued the 640-407,
It seems that they are doing the same thing again , because if you ring vue, they will tell you that the beta exams have to be done by feb 18.
If i follow the pattern in 2000 , then I would think cisco are bringing out a new syllabus probaly in the next 6 months or so.
at that time some of my mates had done a couple of the old ccnp subjects but they ended up doing the ccnp 2.0 because the 2 ccnp subjects still counted towards there ccnp.
I don't think cisco are like checkpoint who do not allow old version exams to count towards new certification

Hi guys,
From what I've seen, Cisco allow any exams that you've passed in the previous level (ie CCNP 2.0) to count towards the qualification at the new level (ie CCNP 3.0).
So you should only have to take the remaining exams in the series to gain the qualification.
The only drawback that I can see is if you've bought the old library you may find it doesn't cover any new stuff that's been added to the new exams.
We'll have to wait for the official announcement from Cisco to be sure though.
Regards
Peter
