 what's a good use for the infrared connector on a motherboard?
what use is the ir connector? I have never had a use for it and frankly don't really know much about it. Has anyone ever used it?

Never had use for them either, but some people do, I guess. The main reason for an IR port is to transmit data from say a laptop to the IR port on a printer or another laptop, or even a PDA. It is the basis for a "wireless" network. However, it is limited to "line of sight", unless you have relays setup. At least that is how I understand it. Anyone else want to chime in?

It's useful on laptops because you can just sit it in front of a printer with infrared and print, mrfixit explained it pretty well.

You might have to go to the control panel to turn "on" the IR services. It's wireless networking but doesn't use radio waves, instead infared light. It's not as good as the wireless networking standards today. But it can be cool/useful if you know how to use it.
