 Linux security advice
one of our customer have asked me to install him a firewall based on linux and some other security tool like snort and tripwire. I would like to know if there is a good application running on linux which can perform content scanning or security content.

 Security on Linux
Firstly, when you mention security content scanning am not too sure what you mean by this. However, if you want to set up securtiy content stuff I suggest you access the terminal screen using root access and type in "setup" from here you can set up the firewall to allow or dis-allow http, telnet etc. I hope this information at least sheds some light in trying to answer your question.

If security's a major concern you may want to look into one of the BSDs, particularly OpenBSD. It's a little harder to setup but a lot more secure. I'm not sure what you mean by content scanning either. You can setup various types of firewalls including snort and tripwire's great for intrusion detection. I suggest getting the book "Building Linux and OpenBSD Firewalls". It's a great intro to creating firewalls.
