D. The driver package does not contain all files required to complete the installation.

This certainly was a poser .....

Correct Answers: A, B, C and D

A. Correct: Errors occurring during installation could cause a driver installation to be skipped. After installation has completed, use the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard to run the Plug and Play process to find Plug and Play devices and the hardware detection process for other devices not recognized through Plug and Play. If hardware detection fails to find the device, manually install the supporting device driver from the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard. Manual installation of a driver requires Administrator privileges.

B. Correct: The Windows 2000 Setup routine will not install unsigned device drivers. A driver is signed after it has passed all Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) tests. Driver signing is a feature of Windows 98 and Windows 2000. After installation is complete, it is possible to manually install an unsigned driver, but this is not recommended.

Note: By Default, the user who is installing an unsigned device driver is warned but not blocked from installing an unsigned device driver. File signature verification can be configured to block unsigned driver installations (Block mode), warn the user before installing the driver (Warn Mode), or provide no warning of an impending unsigned driver installation (Ignore mode). You configure File Signature Verification mode in the Driver Signing Options dialog box. Open this box by clicking the Driver Signing button in the Hardware tab of the System Properties dialog box.

C. Correct: Some devices use a device driver with a configuration interface that is separate from Windows 2000 Setup routine. In this case, device driver installation is completed after Windows 2000 is installed.

D. Correct: If a hardware vendor does not provide a unique Plug and Play device identifier, Windows 2000 will not know that it needs a special driver, so a generic driver may be installed. This limits the special features available for the device. This is common for video adaptors and monitors. After the operating system installation is complete, you can install the vendor-supplied driver in place of the generic driver.
