Is this the first . . .
hey All,
Is this the first recommended test to take? I passed the CompTIA A+ test with flying colors and I am now studying the Network+ test. The N+ is moving up in the ranks for an accepted alphabet soup letter to have. but I would rather like to have that MCSE after my name.

It doesn't really matter what test you start out with for your MCSE cert, but most of us I think did start out with the 210. Its all up to you and what you want to do, but good luck with the tests.

First..............
I found when studying for the 210 there was a need to know a little of the Server (215) there is an overlap between the two. If you find you cannot study both together, I suggest doing 215 first or at least cross reference to 215 if you decide to do 210 first.

Many people say that 210 is harder than 215. Therefore I say stake your claim in the Microsoft field, and conquer the 210 exam first. Knowing you pass and overcome that exam you can move on to the other exams, knowing a few of the information discussed that was introduced in 210 Professional

Thanks people,
Very valuable info. I have heard that the 210 was a hard one to pass and my one study guide shows me that. Once I have the bucks saved up, I will invest in some books to look over. Until then, it's the free stuff on the net and forums such as this.

I just took the 210 today and it's not an easy test. Get a book and read and find as many sites, forums, etc. to study with.

215 or not
I took the 215 first for the lead up to the 210.
It depends on which way you look at it.
Take the harder one first or use an easier one to break the ice.
Hands on makes anything that seems hard to become relatively easier.
All the best no matter which way you go.

I wish hands on was an option. I've been going over cramsession's 56 page pdf file on the 210 test. I downloaded it with the knowledge bases it recommends and I can pick up the concept pretty easily. (at least thru the first 20 pages) That is only installing W2K.
Thanks for your input.

Have you had a look at the moc 2151A and 2152B they come with a 120 day evaluation package plus labs, coarse format study and readiness review cd's.

I would endeavor the CCNA first.
You are currently studying for Network+, that takes you about 1/3 through CCNA if you get to know the information pretty well. While you're studying for the CCNA, just play in Win2K. To study for it is cheap: from Cisco or 3Com, you can get really good study references on IP (free) and OSI (pdf files downloadable). You can also access as many news groups. I would recommend getting a router simulator if you have no access (I use Boson (boson.com) and Sybex' "CCNA VIRTUAL LAB". This will cost you between 50 and 150 US.
Meanwhile, knowing the material in this exam will be a serious SERIOUS leg up on the real challenge of the MCSE, the 70-216, Networking Infrastructure.
All the while you're playing with Win2K making different things work on a network you build at home or work just "playing" in it. You will be amazed at the difference when you go to study for MCSE.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
