I've started with certs when I was 19, but successfully received the first test when I was 22. I went for one of the certs when I was 18, didn't have a computer nor did I have good books to read from. I took a CNA 3 exam after reading the book on Netware 2.2 and failed by just 1 question. That is pretty awesome, for someone who didn't practice on the computer and was not in the IT industry at all.

Later I started reading a lot of NGs (News Groups) and tried to respond to many of them. Started off with basics, i.e. A+ related, such as msdos batch, from alt.msdos.batch and went on.

Basically, as they say it's never too late to start, and it's never too early to get in to the IT field.

I am now an IT Manager, and I've only been in IT field for the past 4 years.

Today I got my MCP and planning to finish my MCSE by end of February, 2002, that is this year next month.

Good luck to everyone who has the spirit and strength to go for it.

My advice to everyone: Go for it, no matter how young or old you think you are.

You are right. There is no right age for anyone to try any field new in their career. Just attack and become what you wish to become and desire

That's not the way to go about your Title's. What happens when you get to the job and they put a 4 hour lab in front of your face. What are you going to say. That you're better with questions? Not a good approach

I actually have been studying Windows 2000 for a year, but that is it. I started with Windows 2000 Pro, when I convinced my manager that we should be moving on to 2000 as a test. And ever since, it's been the OS I've used.

I then got a copy of a server to try the test at home. I've tried everything I could. So I'd say the answer is, yes, studying and a lot of it. Mostly conceptual and steps to completing tasks.

I'm going for my 210 this friday and thinking of going for 216 next thursday. All the concepts I think I already got, I just need to get into details of everything I studied, such as AD, Group Policies, etc. That's just practice, as for me.

exactly, I agree. You gotta be able to put together the whole network of windows 2000 computers and feel pretty comfortable when doing that.

That's why CCIE lab is so hard (as most people say). That's because they put you in a lab and it's up to what is in your knowledge base to get things done.

I'm going for knowledge, that's the only thing that keeps a person one step ahead in this world from another person. And not everyone is willing to gain that knowledge the hard way, but the real knowledge is what counts at the end.

To be honest, for me, fobia of staying behind everyone else in class used to be a major issue. So I used to read a chapter ahead so that I could stay ahead of everyone else and not stay behind.

And when I focus, and since I have good logic most of the time, I seem like the smartest kid, as some say, but in reality it's the tricks of one's mind that enable one to create that elusion. I believe we all are capable of more than we think we are, we just don't believe in ourselves as much as we all should.

So that's me, a dreamer who makes the dream a reality. Sounds too self confident or overboard for others, but that's exactly what it is.

I've set a goal and it's a principle now to get to it in the time frames I specified for myself.

If you knew the actual goals I have (highlights of which are planned for the next 7 years) you'd clearly think I'm nuts.
