Which devices for CCNP lab ?

Hi guys,
I'm pretty sure that i'll get the right answer. Which devices do i need to keep a CCNP lab ? Which model of routers, switches ? How many of each one ?
Thanks a lot ...

You born broke, you die broke . Why work ?

More is better especially if you plan on going on to CCIE studies. You can pass the CCNP exams pretty easily without alot of home lab equipment because those exams are mostly theory. I suggest you start with the goal being a CCIE lab being purchased slowly over some time because a good lab will cost you between 7-12K depending how complete you make it.

2500 model routers are the most affordable but aren't modular. (Good starting point for a couple of routers.) 2511 makes a great term server. 2501 is a good starting router. The token ring models will be necessary for the Lab.

2600 model support many optional modules so eventually you'll want two of these. 2621 is nice because it supports fastethernet in the chasis.

I also have a 3640 which is really nice, but may not be really necessary. Kind of pricey..

For the CCIE Lab you will need to know set base configurations. The Cat5000 model is end of life so is getting cheaper. You could also use the Cat4000 model but they tend to be more expensive. Some here buy the 2900 series of switch but to my knowledge it ain't used in the lab so I don't have one.

A really nice Lab would also have a 39xx token ring switch but you won't need that for CCNP.

Hope this helps a bit,

Yankee

Question

What about a 5000 or a 5500? Nice to have but is it essential for CCIE?

i had heard that supply for 2501 will be stopped this year and some other cisco devices also will not be available . So this also means that these will not be included in CCIE lab exam ? And if anybody knows what are other equipments to be replaced kindly just tell me also .

My guess would be the 2600's as the baseline.

The reason I include the Cat5 or Cat4 as a must have is that they are set based switches and used in the Lab. You won't get the proper experience playing with IOS based switches. Just my opinion...
