Disable Floppy Drive Question
Hello everyone,
Sorry this is a little long.
I've got a question. Does anyone know of a way to disable a floppy drive through a script whether it be a registry hack or a third party utility. We're currently running NT4 on our workstations. We'll be upgrading to Win2k this year.
Basically what I'd like to do is something to this effect:
Floppy drive access is enabled for all users by default.
IF user does not have Anti Virus auto protect running or Virus definitions are not the most recent version THEN
disable floppy drive/floppy drive access
ELSE
Do nothing (leave the floppy drive enabled)
Now I'm not talking about using Floplock or some other third party utility to disable Floppy drive access based on a group membership. That's how we currently do it. Floppy drive access is disabled unless you are a member of the Administrators group.
So, if I can pull this off, all users would have the ability to access their floppy drive as long as their Anit-Virus auto protect is enabled (running) and they have the latest Anti-Virus Defs installed. (We push those down to the clients on a weekly basis). This would eliminate the IT department from having to drop files to floppies for the business units, which is the ultimate goal of this little research project.
Writing the script itself is not the issue, that'll take about 3 minutes to do, the problem lies in that I can't seem to find an executable to call or a reg hack to implement if the criteria is met. The only thing I can find is the ability to disable Floppy drive access based on a group membership.
Any and all ideas are welcome!
Thanks

Just bringing this back up with the more recent threads.
I'm still researching this little idea out.
Anyone have any ideas or maybe a way to attack this from a different angle that I haven't considered.
Maybe Floplock can be used, I don't know enough about it. Anyone have a good understanding of that utility?
Many Thanks.
