Help with dual boot.
OK Techies, I have a question for you. I put
in a new WD 60GB hard drive. I made it into
three 20GB partitions. On C: I have Windows
98 SE, on D: I have all of my kids' games
(they have too many!)and I would like to put
Windows XP Professional on drive E:
I want this to be a dual boot. What is the
best way to do this. I have never done a
dual boot before.
Thanks

Hi,
I have only used XP a couple of times - but my machine dual boots with 98SE and Windows 2000 Professional. It may work the same.
Assuming you already have a drive E: and do not have to add the partition with Partition Magic - all you need to do is insert the CD into your CD drive.
When the installation starts it will ask you if you want to install on the current partition or which partition you would like to install the operating system too.
That's how it worked for me with Windows 2000. Hopefully XP does it pretty much the same, or even makes the process easier.

Dual Boot
Paisleyskye has hit the nail on the head - just insert the CD and follow the directions.

Cool. I was afraid it was different with XP. I'm glad I got it right - I had visions of his computer blowing up because he followed my instructions. Glad I had it right.

He doesn't want to do a clean install - if he did he would wipe his system he has know off his machine. He should put the CD in and choose to load on drive E:

I know there is no way for everyone to know this, but I am a SHE not HE. "DYLON" is the name of my cat. Anyway, thanks for the responses. I do have a Drive D as well. This was a new hard drive so I made all my partitions and they have been formatted.I did a clean install on my C: for Win98, have
all my kids' games on D: and will put WinXP on E:. I just wanted to make sure I would not have a problem dual booting with the two. XP has hardly been mentioned in class as it is new and I have never used it before.
Thanks Everyone!

XP setup is very much the same as win 2000.
you will be asked what file system you want to use if you use. If fat32 then your win98 will see the XP drive. If you intend using NTFS then win98 will not see the XP drive but XP can see win98.
Dylon was my favorite magic roundabout caracter hey man!!!!!!!! LOL
