I kinda wanna get experience with databases but I have no clue where to start. Can i download or get an Eval copy of SQL? How popular is SQL and MCDBA these days?

One more thing, if i set it up at home, would it be good practice or could i not do most of the things in a 3 computer network that i could on a job with, say, 25 computers?

Hi PotatoHead (luv the handle!),

You can get a 120-day evaluation copy of SQL Server 2000 at
Microsoft

You have 3 computers networked at home? That's great! You should be able to learn a lot. Of course it isn't the same as managing a huge network using a big SQL Server database, but you should be able to learn the majority of the Admin tasks. If you then get a job managing SQL Server big-scale, you might need to learn more about performance and load balancing.

Good luck!

Cassie

Lightbulb hmmmmm

The mcdba track is pretty nice to finish, i finished mine and do some consulting for SQL/ASP/ADO/Access 2000 web database amin and programming.

Get the 120 evaluation from ms, i think its $10 but it will only load on a server, not win 98 like sql server 7 did.
Maybe it will but i have loaded mine on a win2k adv server.
since you have a network, the practice that you get out of it will be like having 25 or more clients.

Sql 2000 has tons of bells and whistles and it has its own XML explorer for xml integrations.

GoodLuck

There's an eval version of SQL 2000 on the SQL Server 2000 Admin study guide by Sybex books.
