In Sybex CCNA by Todd Lammel. Todd said that when prompt look like Router(Config-if) that means you are in interface of router but you don't know which by just looking at the prompt and further he said, that's why Cisco administrator earn more money than Microsoft.
Couldn't get that..........

ok if the host name of the Router is [Router[/b] and you wanted to configure serial 0 interface you would type:
NB anything in bold is not seen on the router this is for notes in here ok.
Router>en <password>
Router#config terminal
Router#(config)interface serial 0
Router#(Config-if) <--------from this point you do not know which interface it is.
If you do the same for serial 1 on a dual serial port router(eg. 2514) you would see this:
Router>en <password>
Router#config terminal
Router#(config)interface serial 1
Router#(Config-if) <--------from this point you do not know which interface it is.
do you get it now?

I thought about this one for a while. If you were at the router interface prompt, it is true that you would not know which interface it was,,,,,,, unless you had gone their from logon, in which case, you knew which interface you were going to!.
I think what Todd Lammle means, sarcastically, is that a Cisco admin guy/gal KNOWS which interface he/she is at!
Of course, Icould be wrong.

I think you are overanalyzing this one. This is how simple it is...
The prompt "Router#(Config-if)" does not indicate which interface you are logged into. The text is not specific to any interface, and the prompt is used for all interfaces. The administrator has to remember which interface he logged into, or scroll back up to the last time he entered interface configuration mode. That is all he is saying.
quote: that's why Cisco administrator earn more money than Microsoft.
Regarding Todd's comment about this. Although most Cisco administrators DO make more money than Microsoft administrators, he was obviously making a joke.

I think Todd means...
That he has earned more money off his CCNP than he has off his MCSE certificaiton. He also might be saying in a sarcastic way that you bought the right book for the right cert. Of course the CCIE is the daddy of all certs commmand serious dollars for its holder.
Actually if you browse monster.com (been a while) but I recall seeing that Networking admins generally made a bit more than MS admin's. Of course Cert requirements and dollars vary from job to job, and individual to individual. The MCSE is a good cert in my opinion. Todd just likes Cisco better.
Little fact: Did you know that individuals that are precieved to be good looking make more than those who aren't with the same education, experience, and qualifications. Yup, it's true. Research has shown that people with better symetry are generally considered better looking. They make and average of 15% for same qualifications as their less symetrical counterparts. I saw this on either The Learning Channel or Discovery Channel anyway. I saw it on TV, so it's got to be true. ;-)
Peace

Lammle
The man is an icon and has made and is making awsome figures due to his cisco lifestyle, no complaints there.
His ccnp courses do suck though compared to Cisco press materials.
