My company has a small network for demo the simply consists of (1) 2000 server running RAS with Dial on Demand for (1) NT server, both laptops connected to a mini hub with static ip's. Everything (past tense) worked fine, when launching IE on the NT server the 2000 server would automatically dial and that was it. Well I set the NT server to DHCP so it could access the local network and then re-entered what I thought where the correct IP settings. Well since then Dial on demand isn't working. They can Ping back and forth, but that's about it. The client (NT) IE settings are never dial a connection and nothing enable in LAN settings, pretty sure that was the old settings.
Did I miss something?

If your 2000 Server which is doing the DDR is also doing NAT, you can not use a DHCP server on those internal machines and expect the ddr to work. DHCP and NAT can not coexist. Since this is such a small network, use static IPs all the way around.

u can not use dhcp with internet connection sharing (ics) or NAT please not us dhcp in your natwork what all u do is to use the ip range of 192.168 or select clients on internal network for automatic ip from your nat server. nat works as mini dhcp and dns

Deleted the configuartion and reinstalled, disbaled DHCP, did it (was using NAT).

Correct me if I'm wrong. But as I see it as long as you dont use the 'Address Assignment' property in Win2k NAT you can use a DHCP server with NAT on the same network.

As it goes you could even assign a pool of address that have been exclude from the DHCP servers scope so that you don't get duplicate IP addresses.

Probably wrong but there ya go.

Oh yeah, you can't use DHCP and ICS on the same network.
