telnet session to router
Hi all,
Part of router config is as follows:
!
line vty 0 4
login
password 1234
!
Recently the first 4 telnet sessions seems to be "locked" since only one telnet session is possible, one must quit the last session before others can login(telnet). Output of "show users" as below, how can I clear the unwanted sessions? Or something is wrong?
Router#sh user
Line User Host(s) Idle Location
2 vty 0 idle 7w4d 1.1.1.1
3 vty 1 idle 7w4d 1.1.1.2
4 vty 2 idle 3w4d 1.1.1.1
5 vty 3 idle 03:08:36 10.1.1.1
*6 vty 4 idle 00:02:24 1.1.1.1
Interface User Mode Idle Peer Address
Router#
Thanks in advance,
Goku

if you want to shut remote telnet connection on your router, you can use the "clear line" command with the line number you want to disconnect. for example : "clear line 2 " , will end user session on this specific line.
to end your own telnet connection on remote router just use the "disconnect" command.
ok I hope all this will help you ! or other guys will add more explanation. good luck

It seems like you have another problem. If the line is active, you will have a asterisk (*) sign in front of the line number. As your post, there is no * in front of the line 2 to 5.
Please let us know the result of using clear line command. Thanks.

Hi Hoon,
Actually I am also puzzled with the situation as the first 4 vty sessions were already logged out by myself(some were 7 weeks before!) and colleagues but the fact is that if I don't clear them then only one telnet session is possible(no further telnets until the 5th is logged out)
Anyway after I cleared the inactive vty's the telnet sessions resume normal now.
One more point, the response for "show users" was really slow(>1 min !) before I cleared all inactive sessions.
So, any guys with similar exp before?
Cheers,
Goku

After clearing the lines the "locked" dead sessions didn't happen again, but it's strange to take a minute or so to display the "sh users" output.
btw, the IOS version is quite new(ver 12.2 on a 160X router).
Cheers,
Goku
