Without looking on the Novell site at the moment, I believe the CNA 4.11 certification has either just retired, or will be retiring soon. 4.11 has been around a few years, so I think it's safe to say that 5.1 will be around a few more, and ver 6 is supposed to release very soon.

If a system is being replace, u need to re-take the exam to keep your certification up to date.
I agreed with PotatoHead, u can always say u are CNA NW5, just not yet on NW6. U know what we mean.

CNAs don't retire.
I think the key point in the definition is "What benefits" will Novell grant you access to. For example, you must be a CNE5 to gain access to their CNE5 forums. However, if you hold a previous CNE you still have access to the previous forums. I don't believe there has been any changes to the CNA cert however. I think it goes on and on and on...

Technically, they don't expire.
U earn the knowledge. 
If u are CNA 3, 4, 5. It never go away!
Don't worry about this issue!
