A bios upgrade should be free firmware. Phoenix just send you to micro something or other to pay for it.

Please tell me there's still a way to get the latest upgrade free?

It is free. You should be checking the manufacturer of your MB instead of the company that makes the BIOS.
Most(maybe) OEM MB manufacturers made some change on the BIOS, so it would be better to get it from the MB manufacturer.

Don't go to the pheonix site, go to the site of the motherboard manufacturer. It is up to them to supply the update. If you do not know what the site is, then go to www.winfiles.com click on windows drivers then bios updates. They have all the major manufacturers listed. If you own a pre-built PC like HP or Ccompaq then go to the PC manufacturer's website and check there.

Hope that helped.

Ok I know this is a stupid question but other than Momma's Boy, what does MB mean and how do I find who mine is and contact them?

MelGib7, sorry. I'm just used to MB instead of type out the entire word. MB means Motherboard :P
If you look at your motherboard, you might find the name of the manufacturer or maybe model number.
I believe there is a program that actually tell you what brand of motherboard you have(not 100% accuracy, but close).
I'll look for the program when I'm in the office on Monday.

Thanks.

I gather you're doing well in the tech bus? I mean when you can take the time to give back at these message boards and such?

Here is the website that has some BIOS info. http://www.sysopt.com/bios.html
but it has very little on Phoenix BIOS.
try this method. When you boot your system, try to copy down your BIOS ID Number (either on bottom left corner or after memory test it will show on the middle left)
use any search engine and enter the BIOS ID.
maybe you will get lucky and find the manufactuer.....
