Dte-dce

Can I connect 3000 series router back to back with a 1602 router. If yes, what
type of DTE-DCE cable I need?

3000 has a serial V2.

You can use a dte/dce crossover cable. I bought one on ebay for about 16 dollars and $4 shipping. All you have to do is connect the dte side of the cabel which is stated on the cable to the serial int that has the clock rate (dce) specified and connect the other end to the dte router. Hope this helps.

Yes. This is basically just a serialized crossover cable.

Question 2

The problem is that the 1602 does not have a serial. It has RJ-45 for all ports except AUI, so where must I attach a DTE-DCE.

If you have aux ports on those routers you can still configure them for back to back operation using a cisco RJ-45 rollover cable. I tried making a rollover cable but could never get the thing to work right.

This is the doc I used to connect my aux ports back to back. You can route through the Aux ports, but the data flow is slow....

This is bit confusing; if it is a Cisco 1602, then it is a router and should have some sort of WAN interface. I suspect that one of the RJ45 ports is in fact an ISDN WAN port. Probably, with an S/T type interface. Did you acquire this router or buy it yourself and specify the WAN interface type?

Have a look see if one of the RJ45 ports appears to be on a separate slot in card; that might prove that it is an ISDN ports.

That is really strange that the reouter does not have a serial port. I looked at the specs on

Cisco 1602 R

Ethernet:

10Base-T (RJ-45) and

AUI (DB-15)

56K 4 wire DSU/CSU:

RJ-48S

there is no serial port so this will not work
you can plug the ethernet into the other ehternet I guess. Next time you by router make sure it has serial. This one has 56k scu/dsu. I do not know what you are going to do as far as connectiong it to anohter router sorry.
