Technical college Graduates Where Are You Now?
Hello everyone, I am a student at a Technical college here in the San Francisco bay area,Ca.
I'm graduating in March 2002 with an AAS degree in Network Systems administration. I am A+,CCNA, and MCP certified. I have no experience in the IT field but I am positive about my prospects upon graduation.
What I want to know is how are you other people out there doing who have at least an AAS degree in IT? What were your starting incomes like when you first graduated?

First IT job was mid to upper 20's. I had little IT experience, an AAS in Comp. Sci. and a B.A. in English, but no certs. However, I had about 4 years of medical equipment tech support/customer service, so that helped land that first position as well.

right track
It sounds like you are on the right track. You should do well; it's hard to say about a starting salary.
I dropped out of my Associates program in 92' because they never offered the upper level courses I needed to close the deal. I basically gave up on my associates in Electronics Technology. Well that wasn't the right path for me anyway. There really aren't any more trons, and hardware in the IT industry is so basic now. Anyway, after rising to the top in Trons, I switched to software integration and networking about 3 and a half years ago. The transition was smooth, because I was already doing the job. I'm progressing up the ladder pretty well on that side of the house now.
You're Associates degree is actually in a field where you can grow. I encourage you to do just that. Don't be afraid to keep looking around after you land a job too. Especially if the company sez, well you need this or that to do this work. That's all a bunch of crap... just do the job and prove them all wrong.
Good luck!
