Hi All,

I am installing redhat 7.2 on my Laptop but it cannot it is unable to read my newly created partition.


Here is what I did and my scenario.

I have 3 NTFS partition on my Laptop all are runnning Micro$oft and I still have 4 GB left unpartitioned and unformatted. So I decided to install Redhat 7.2 on it. I partition the unused space and set it on active so that when CDrom of RH boots it will boot directly to that partition (NOTe:I format the partition to FAT, FAT 32 but it is always saying to me that he was not able to read my newly created partition. what will I do? I badly need it to function. Any suggestion will be higly appreciated.

i dont know why you formated anything to fat/32, dont mark the partition as active, i dont know what you mean by "when the cdrom boots it boot directly to linux" .. if you mean during installation, linux doesnt need to reboot during an installation not like that other os, dont mark it active, and let LILO manage the booting, make sure to put it in the MBR, and add the lines in lilo.conf for your win2k install, this should be all that is needed .. good luck ..

Hi, I understand what you are saying. But our problem is that my installation with RedHat stopped because it cannot read the partition I made. So I cant proceed with the installation. The reason I mention Fat/32 is that I try these two file system just in case even though I knew that redhat can read it eventually when you try to install it on every partition. How can we manage to make my unused partition/space to install RedHat on it.

are you saying it wont allow you to partition it using disk druid?

Yeah, you are right. The reason is I think it cannot read the partition that is available.

U need to unformat the FAT!

It means that the HD is unallocated to any format. Then u can install RH

Do you mean it will detect the unformatted partition immediately? Well if that is the case I will try ur suggestion. I give this a try and I will let you all know.
