which database is more popular? MS SQL or Oracle ?

Hi guys,

i need some feedback from you all.

Have anyone or your company is running oracle8i sitting on a win2k server? How is it?

Is it true, running a MS SQL is better on win2k server?

Are there any response from your clients or your company, is still prefer to run oracle on unix box instead of windows server?

Currently, i planning to implement a HR solution to link up to a database. Thinking whenther should i use oracle 8i or MS SQL ?
And it's to be installed on a win2k server....

From what i know, most company practise this way, huge database run on oracle sitting on unix, small and medium database run on MS SQL sitting on Win2k server.

Will microsoft overtake oracle in the future, if MS look into their internal structure of MS SQL, enhance it, so that, MS SQL are able to run huge database, just like oracle?

Let me know your feedback guys, all your feedback is greatly appreciate, thanks and hve a great day ahead.

See ya!!!

Oracle is the most popular and dependable. MySQl is often used on Linux servers for web based database apps, whereas Oracle tends to be used for higher end apps. MS doesnt really rate for serious database applications except as a front end.

Thanks for the feedback.

While,it's all depend on cost and requirement, and of course, there might have some unseen stuffs too.

I definately disagree., unless of course you only equate "serious" with large applications. Since every company considers their needs to be very serious, I wouldn't want to say that in front of a potential client!

SQL Server is excellent for small to medium applications. Although Oracle is superior in terms of stability and adaptability, it's also terribly expensive, not only in terms of licensing but in the cost of hardware, labor and maintence. The cost is well justifiable in a mission critical enterprise environment, but it's a poor database consultant who suggests to a company that they spend 10x as much money for a mid-range product (like a call center, or an inventory database) when SQL Server is more than capable of handling their needs.
