I don't know why !!!!!!!!! need help
I have two problem :
1) I have at home one cisco router 2501 version 11.03; there is no device connected on ethernet and serial port.
I just use this router to type some commands an have some hand one experience. So when I define an ip addresse for ethernet 0
any thing is ok , and it appear in the runnig config. when I type "show ip route" to verify that network attached to ethernet 0
appear in the routing table, it show blank. I think the network should appear with a "C" meaning connected.
could someone explain me why I can see this network on the routing table ? maybe be there is a problem is the router ios ?
2) second question. I work one routersim 3, . I define an ip address on ethernet 0 , exemple 180.252.2.1 255.255.0.0 ( router 2500)
when type show ip route, I see " 180.252.0.0 /24 is subnetted " and the network 180.252.2.0 , I can't understand why
this network appear with a class C mask, because I use a class B default mask /16 when I define this ip adr on the interface.
thanks a lot for your help

hello,
your ethernet will be 'down' until you plug something into it. When I'm playing around with a spare router at work I use a minihub (cheap, four-port hub) to get the router ethernet port up.
I can't say I've seen your second problem at all, other than a typing error when entering the config. Have you tried erasing the config and starting again?
Regards
Peter

yes I erase the config many time, it does always the same. any class A and B address appear with a class C default mask. And it's the same on "routersim 3" and "routersim 2.1"
thanks for your help
