 Setup ISP
Question:
There are dead spots in my state. NO local access#'s for the any ISP'S.
Does anyone know how to setup a ISP.
Equipment?
Lines? -multiple users calling one line

I'm considering starting an ISP too  So far the best general info site I've been able to find is www.isp-planet.com They have some good articles that should give you a general idea of what's involved. A lot of what's involved depends on how you plan on having users connect to you (dial up, DSL, cable, wireless...).

I'm thinking about starting a wireless ISP so most of what I've done so far is learn as much as I can about wireless networking.

A good ISP def need a good ole planning. I dont knwo much but I have been arround several ISP cabinets and some ISP network guru... some with bgp infrastructure and some with static routes. From 1 to 11 routers based.
Well from my prespective, you should start with 2 routers.. 1 should do ya but still. Sun machines should win the preference and Cisco access servers are hot nowadays!

Yeah, good planning's a must. I'm going to start off very small so BGP's not an issue (yet). Actually, I might not even connect to the Internet. One of the things that I'm considering is providing the last mile to other ISPs.
I'm planning on using FreeBSD on x86s for most things but those Sun Blades do look tempting. Cisco equipment's very nice; I'll use it a lot too; especially their aironet products.

u can use cisco AS5300 so if you got more users u can put even more slots in that & for the router i think so 3640 will be visible ,2900 series switches can also be used for internal lan

 A lot to Learn!
Hey guys,
Based on what I have been reading and what you all have put in this thread I know now that I am not Sharp enough to do my own ISP, YET. I am just a simple tech becuase I havent got the experience or exsposure to even start an ISP. However I am reading.
Have any of you read some good books. I see some books but I would like some input on which ones to read....
Hey if any of you start your own ISP soon, Let me me know what type of setup you have and how it works.
