Cable Modems and DNS
This has been bugging me. I have a Netgear Switch/Router that I use for my cable modem access. The router itself acts as both the DHCP and DNS server. Every so often (seems like its been happening more lately), my DNS goes down for 2 mins, 5 mins, sometimes longer. Then it comes back itself or I have to unplug my modem and router. So periodically because of that I can't surf the web (because DNS is involved) nor do stuff like a tracert. Has this happened to anyone else? It's more of a nuisance than a problem right now, but like I said its happening more now.

Hasn't happend to me. If it's just DNS that's going bad and the NAT isn't being affected you may want to create DNS entries on the client PCs to external DNS server(s). Have you tried updating to the latest firmware?

Try plugging the modem directly to your computer and see if the dns drop. If it's dropping, could be issues with the ISP dns server.
