Smile Poll: Openings and Salary for my profile.

Hi Everybody:
This is Hiren Purohit from India, and into IT from last 5+ years with more then 2 years as WinNT4.0 System Administartor and from past 1+ year working on SAP R/3 Basis Administration(selflearning and working). I am an MCSE4.0 and about to complete OCP DBA 8i by Dec2001. No major experience as DBA, but felt like to expand as an System Administrator. After OCP DBA will start hunting for International Jobs.
I donot know how to start with it as selecting the Location and Salary too.
Regards and Thanks in Advance,

HIREN P (hirenp@vsnl.com)

It depends on the location. I would say in the U.S. you could get a strting job at about 30, 000 bucks depending on your location, but after that you could avance rapidly after getting some experience. I am not sure of the rates in India.

I think you'd have a tough time finding a job in the US. HB1 visas aren't cheap, so employers are unlikely to hire relatively inexperienced workers right now, especially with so many local workers looking for work here already.

If you can get a few years experience as an Oracle DBA somewhere, you might be able to land a good job in the US with a nice salary. Nobody wants an inexperienced Oracle DBA, but they seemto be in short supply. And the climate should be more friendly to foreign workers again by then.

Exclamation Experience Experience Experience

You will need good amount of experience to even get a chance at OCP DBA stuff, most jobs want atleast 3-4 years of working experience, i know that market very well and it is not as friendly as it use to be, well Dba and programmer jobs for high-end database cases are not easy gigs to just land with lil or no experience.

I have done oracle programming/DBA and it consumes a lot of your time and the employers want good track record of experience

also you need to not ask for too much money If someone wants to give you a chance on their DB system.

GoodLuck!

Salary must be compared to the cost of living in the place where you live.

US$ 30 K for a person in IT in US may be a small salary. But if he gets the same in India then it is great salary. I will select the second one since the COL in India is low.
