How much is PRI

This is from Sybex but it says the same thing in my other reference materials.

"In North America and Japan, the ISDN Primary Rate Interface service delivers 23 64Kbps B channels and one 64Kbps D channel for a total bit rate of up to 1.544Mbps."

But 24 x 64 Kbps = 1.536 Mbps

Where did we get those extra 8 Kbps?

23 B channels = speed is 64 k each
1 D channel = speed is 16 k
1 sync channel = speed is 56 k

Thanks haseeb_eng. That math works out.

Funny no mention of that sync channel in th Sybex book or the Cisco Certification Guide.

It does, but with wrong inputs. The PRI D channel is 64 k (the BRI D channel is 16 k). That's 23 Bs and 1 D, each 64 k, for a total of 1536 k. The difference (8 k) is indeed used for synchronization.
