Help for software installation

I have installed solaris 8 on my PC, and add the bundled software in the cdrom. Lately, I download the freeware for solaris from sun, unzip it according to sun indication, and copy it to the default spool directory: /var/spool/pkg, however when I issue pkgadd command, it say it can't find any installation in the above /var/spool/pkg directory.

Do anyone know why, please help.
