JavaScript

In order to be able to open and read any javascript files with extension of .js, do I need a special compiler or something? Where can I get one. I can't seem to open any of these files on my system.

Open them in notepad. JavaScript is not a compiled language. Probably what is happening is that your machine is looking for an application that is associated with the extension so that when you try to open it, it either tries to open the script with an application that it can't find or it an attempt is made to execute the script.
