Real world wan question?

comming up to 9 months and im still no where near ready to taking this exam, How do you pass CCNA while holding down a job and keeping the missus and two kids happy,(not to mention the house that needs constant work).

Seriously though, is SDLC and HDLC implemented these days? or is there a workaround, ie take an IBM mainframe to router , is SDLC still used or is there a workaround (say encapsulated inside another protocol). Any url's or resorses on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Arrow Yes there is

You can extend an SNA environment with DLSw+ or a layer 2 tunnel through an IP network. Since SNA is not a layer 3 protocol, it in itself cannot be routed but it can be extended and bridged.

One day it will dawn on you, and you will think to yourself, if I'm not ready now,I'll never be ready and then you will take and pass the test.

I think I told you once that, if you needed any help to use this email system,, and give me a shou! I think your time has come, and the cards are in your favor,,, time is of the essence and the market is slowly turning again,,,so be prepared and ready to take that step. I hope to hear your good news (soon).

SDLC is still very common in IBM environments, but mostly for controllers and other devices. The mainframe end is more likely a channel attached with a 7500 or LAN attached, mostly using token. If your controllers are serially attached, you're still stuck with using SDLC at least on that end. Using PU 2.0 and 2.1 devices you can use DLSw to move SNA across a network so you can transparently move SDLC attached controller traffic to LAN attached hosts. PU 1.0 is limited to STUN so you'd need SDLC on both ends.
