1. how can I get rid of the places bar that appears in the save as dialog box and the open dialog box, I have only found out that it can customized.

2. Is it possible that when opening documents to have the default open to my computer or not (I am thinking my computer is not a document so it probably would not work, well it does not I have tried it.

thankx,

Q1 -- Which version or Word are you using? 2000?

Q2 -- Yes. Go to Tools -> Options and pick the File Locations tab. You can modify the default file locations from there.

1. To my knowledge, the places bar cannot be deleted, even though it's true that it can be customized.

2. Are you trying to change your default directory? If so, choose Tools, Options, and click the File Locations tab. Under "File Types" select the "Documents" line and modify the "Location" to be the server, drive, or folder you want Word to use when you use File Save, SaveAs, or Open options.

I hope this helps !
