Probelms with my operating systems!
Helly everyone,
I need your help really fast. I am gonna tell you all my story so you will have a good idea about what's going on.
My computer originally came with Windows 98 First Edition. I upgraded to windows ME. A couple of days ago, I purchased Windows 2000 Pro, because I figured I would need it for studying for my A+ Exam. Before Installing windows 2000, I formated Drive C:, and after that I divided my disk in two partitions, Primary Dos and Secondary Dos partitions. (Drives C, and the Logical Drive D). By the way, my harddrive is 8 GB, so I made the two partitions 4 GB each. On the primary partition, (Drive C I installed Windows 98, and on the secondary partition (Drive D , I installed Windows 2000 Pro. Before installing windows 2k it asks you if you want to format to NTFS. And that's what I did, (now Drive D is NTFS). Now, everything went allright, and I could run both operating systems on dual boot. So the installation went perfectly. Now, today I got an offer to sell my harddrive to someone for $50. That's a good offer isn't it? I am planning to buy a new one. Over 30 GB. I formated drive C:, to delete all applications, but when I tried to format Drive D: on dos, it did not recognize it, (because it's NTFS). So I can't find a way to format my NTFS partition. OK, I went and typed FDISK, and I got into the fdisk commands. I tried to delete the secondary partition, but it gives the message that a logical drive is on it, so I can't delete it. So choose to delete the logical drive, but it doesn't recognise any because it's in (NTFS format). So I can't get rid of my NTFS partition. I installed windows 98 again, on drive C:. At the same time Windows 2000 is installed. But this time after installing windows 98, I saw that It made some changes to boot.ini I think, because I don't get the dual boot command anymore, and on (Drive D , I don't have windows 2000 anymore, but I have my zip drive.
Now, to make my problem easier to you guys I have this questions....
I also tried the (Delete the non-dos partition), but it didn't work, and it said that there aren't any non dos partitions on you drive.
1) How can I format the NTFS partition? When I go to dos, it is not recognised?
I think after formating it, then it will be very easy to take the secondary partition of with FDISK.
I only want to have one partition (8 GB).
2) After Installing Windows 98, it changed my Drive letter for my Windows 2k partition, it's not D: anymore. I have no Idea what it is. And I cant find out what it is from Windows 98 or DOS because it's not recognised since it's NTFS.
3) I think there were made some changes in boot.ini or in some of the other commands, since I don't get a promt to ask me for a dual boot... How can I make it dual boot again?
I am sure that I still have windows 2000 on my disk because I saw it with FDISK, and before installing windows 98 on drive c:, it warned me that the other partition is NTFS.
Please I need your help.... As soon as posssible..
Thanks in advance,
XtremeFighter

To delete NTFS partition, you may boot up your computer using the win2000 installation CD-Rom (it is bootable) When the DOS-based installation wizard guides you through the installation process, you will be asked how to partition your hard disk, you may then delete the NTFS partition.
Hope this help

Hey kwoksir,
After making the post, I thought of trying one more thing to solve my problem. I put in my Windows 2000 CD-Rom, and before making the installation, windows asked me in which partition did I want to install it. After choosing (Drive D , which was NTFS, I had an option to format it to FAT32. I formated it to FAT32 using the Windows 2000 CD.
After that I canceled the installation, while it was initializing, so nothing was on my harddrive yet. I went on fdisk, and deleted the second partition. I reformated Drive C: and chose the option (at fdisk), to put all the space available to C:. After that, I installed windows 98. Now, everything is going smooth with the system.
Thanks anyway for your answer,
XtremeFighter
By the way, I would like to hear what the rest of you would have done If you were in my situtation...
