Floppy disk fail
Hi
I have a problem with a old hack of a box.
Everytime it starts up it displays "floppy disk fail (40) on the startup screen.
I have replace the floppy drive and checked the bios and cables and all seems to be fine.
I sure I'm missing something simple.
Cheers
Bill

is the cable on right??
make sure its connected to the last connector on the chain, cuz the one in the middle is for those old school 5 1/2 floppies.
also make sure the pin 1 is right where it is supposed to be, because unlike IDE devices, floppies can sometimes have the pin 1 away from the power connector.

I don't know does this apply to your floppy drive, but last week I was doing the same exact thing for my friends CD-ROM drive. But the OS could never detect the drive. Then it turned out that the Secondary IDE port was busted or broken, and that computer was a dinosaur, Intel 486, 80mhz.

Just had the same problem here last night. Check the pins! Turns out one of our pins was busted - fortunately we have a large boneyard to pull non-essential pieces such as floppy drives from.
