I typically do this by using Hyper terminal and doing a Capture>Transfer text and specifying a file name.
Type SHOW RUN at the command line.
Stop the transfer when you have reached the end of the running-config. Never tried the XMODEM option.

Hi strikeattack
Will this mot just copy the running config? I think what rootstock is looking for is an actual upgrade of the IOS, and not the configuration? I may be wrong of course
Cheers

short of an ethernet connection
the only way you'll do a file transfer of a
config or ios iamge is via a flash card
if the router has that capability or
thru an xmodem transfer usually using
hyperterminal or .... procomm
and a serial cable

If you have the ability, it pays to change the baud rate on the console port. It really sucks to xmodem a 7 meg file at 9600 when you can safely go several times that speed.

19200 DOES NOT require ZMODEM. The two are totally independent. ZMODEM is preferable over XMODEM because it supports larger packet sizes (if I remember correctly they were about 1K), while XMODEM's packet sizes were about 1/4 of 1K (this is from memory, I could be wrong on the sizes). Also, ZMODEM has automatic file transfer support over XMODEM and is also more efficient. Always use ZMODEM when supported.
