Monitor trouble
My Monitor has been flickering and even like shutting itself on off. I figured it was most likely the refresh rate, it was set at 60hz by default, so I look to change the refresh rate, and it's not under the advance settings, but it did some how set its refresh rate up to 75 by itself, still it flickers. It's a Dell monitor and it's still under warranty if there is a major problem I'm missing? Does anyone have any ideas?
Maybe something got inside or maybe my power supply?
Let me know what you think...
thanks.

Your refresh rate may be set wrong. Try checking your monitor manual. BTW, if the refresh rate is too high, it can permanently damage your monitor. Look under your 'display' settings under the control panel.

Randy,
Hey I understand that it can damage it if the refresh rate is too high, I can't actually change the refresh rate myself, there is not option for that (under display, settings, advanced)It's odd, the monitor always switches itself to a higher ref./rate and then back to the default 60hz on a fresh boot. Do you kind of follow what I'm saying?

Well, you should be able to change the refresh rate, but I have never heard of this sort of thing happening before. Let me check my books and see if I can come up with anything. Are your monitor drivers installed properly?

My monitor is a 19" dell about 2 years old .
goto control panel > display > settings > Advanced tab > adaptor > then goto refresh rate scrol box there you will see the diferent refresh rates . click on refresh rate you require then click on apply.
You can change the refresh rate under the adapter setting. or should be able to.
I can change refresh rate form 60hz to 100hz or choose Optimal. I use Optimal.
Also check your monitors own settings by using buttons on front of monitor.
My monitor says it is running at 1024x768 68.7/85hz.
Also if you can change monitor and check that your grafix card is ok.
hope this helps.

Hey, thanks for the reply, but I can't do any of that, for some odd reason there is no way for me to change my refresh rate!? I guess I may have to call Dell.

Try remomving the monitor and the graphics card from Device Manager. Then reboot and let windows detect and install them again. Then maybe it will let you get to the refresh rate or maybe this will fix the problem itself by reinstalling.

Your present display adapter driver is the culprit. What video card do you have and what driver version is installed. Have you recently changed the display adapter driver version or changed operating systems?
