Question OSPF Router Question .... Im Stuck

I have two ABR's. Both of the ABR's are advertising to Area 0. I am trying to get only one ABR to advertise to Area 0 and have they other advertise as backup if the active one fails or dies. Any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks Everyone
-Even

Sorry for sounding stupid but I need some clarification on your question. I understand you to have the following: a total of two routers acting as ABRs meaning they each have at least one interface in Area 0 and at least one interface in another Area. My guess is that because of the way you phrased your question that you have both Router A and B sharing a second Area I'll call Area 2. If that's right I gather your concern is that both routers are advertising the same network(s) from Area 2 to Area 0. Is that correct?

If all that is true, I'm not sure what your concern is because that would be normal operation. If the cost is identical to the networks, then OSPF would load balance over the two equally weighted routes.

If you wanted to weight one route over the other so that one was primary you can alter the cost to fool OSPF into preferring one route over the other. Try the "ip ospf cost <1-65535>" command to alter the cost.

Hope I stumbled across your question somewhere in my ramblings
