I see alot of people here trying to find jobs. Here are a few pointers:
1.) check your newspaper. Dont just look in the IT section, look in all sections. for example, you could find a job at a law firm helping with Technical Writing or Loading software on computers. Get an entry level position like customer service and work your way up by offering assitance after hours and week end assistance to the IT department. Even if it's for free because the experience and references will help you in the long run. This could even help at your current job.
2.) If you live in an area with a bunch of office buildings, go check out there job postings. Alot of companies don't want to spend the money for newspapers, placement services or online job postings.
3.) Ask your friends and families. Let them know what you do and that you are looking for a job in that field.
4.) Check out websites like www.monster.com, www.dice.com, www.computerjobs.com and look for entry level or part time positions in your area. If you are a real estate developer and want to venture into the IT market, you should keep your day job and work part time at night to get some experience.
Like I advised our little pal sauser, Work Your Jelly. Just because you have a cert don't mean that your going to get that job. Be persistant. Keep looking and furthur more, keep studying. Put one foot in front of the other. You have to Crawl before you can run.
I'm currently a Healthcare IT administrator. Let me explain how I got here. I studied Physics in college but wanted to know more about computers. I got my first job at a health insurance firm dealing with health insurance policies. I studied computers and this gentleman help me out because he was a system administrator. I fell in love with health insurance and was split between 2 careers. I ran into an ad for a Doctor who needed someone who knew Healthcare and IT. This was from the newspaper. Although he received a bunch of applications from one or the other, mine was the only one with Healthcare and IT knowledge. This happened to be a very well known doctor and he offered me the job and referred me to his other doctor buddies.
Although I'm not as smart as some of these guys on this forum in IT, I know my healthcare and i'm better than average in the IT field. I'm good at my job because I know the technical side as well as the office side of my career. I also subscribe to as many career journals as possible (it's a tax write off in April).
Be persistant in your search and mix everything you know.
For those of you that love hardware, read the articles in PC Upgrade and MaximumPC. I think these are the 2 best mags for A+ people. Also check out my friends site www.hardocp.com. If you have access to more than one computer, try some of the stuff that these guys try. It will better your hardware knowledge.
Hope this helps most of you.
Good Luck,
sym
