OK Boys and Girls, I'm in this forum for a while.
Just passed my last test for my MCSE a couple weeks ago and I'm requesting to pick the brain of anyone who has passed or has taken this monster.

My question to anyone in this forum:
If you could give two sugestions what would they be?

Also, if you have valuable data you would like to share, I'm at patrick_bp@hotmail.com.

Lets Rock!

Firstly, I haven't sit the upgrade exams, but I pass the 4 core.

Suggestion:
(1) Buy the Windows 2000 server resource kit
(2) Build a home lab with 2 server & 1 professional, get some self study guide whatever and do HELL a lot of practice on them.

Question need help on book

Just like you, I'm about ready to start the 240 uphill road, but I need some guidance.

I need some advice on the best book. For every book someone says go with, someone else says stay away. But who has taken and passed and can recommend a book they used.

MS press for 240?

Freak:

Your advise is unwaveringly on the money, wanted
to pick your brain further on this: you recommend
MS press for 240. It's been my experience - but
only for nt4 - that MS press was some of the
weakest material. For example, in the world of
NT4, the MS press stuff couldn't hold a candle
for Alan Carter's book. So you're saying
that for someone willing to take on 240, MS press books would be a good foundation? Which titles?
thanks, 1-z

Thanks!

Two Servers, 1 Workstation.
1 PDC, 1 BDC, 1 Workstation.

I would like to make an exchange Server. Would it be ok to put it on the BDC? How about DHCP/WINS/DNS, can I put all these on the PDC?

Thanks,

BUGS

Exclamation

Regardless if its NT4/2000 what your trying to do in your proposal is ok if that's all you have, it will work; However bear in mind that in the "real world" even Microsoft advises that you place a WINS servers on a MEMBER server because WINS is Processor intensive, they also recommend the same for SQL/Exchange (God knows why they don't heed there own advice for the likes of Small Business Server Dhoooo).

For DNS & DHCP either the Domain Controller or a Member will do. Also In windows 2000 there are no such things as BDC's only DC's & Member servers since all DOMAIN controllers are in effect BDC's, that is all Member servers can be promoted to Domain Controllers this is because of the change in Architecture Microsoft is now using i.e. Active Directory...understand?? If not I can give you some links to explain it all.

Hope this helps. )

study material

Hey CP, MLH here. You asked if I knew anyone who had passed 240 and I do. And of course he is the brightest person I know w/ certifications from A+ all the way to his CCIE but anyway! (ok, so I am a little envious) He studied w/ Exam Cram and MS press and has hands on. I bought the Exam Cram and of course haven't done anything but look at it but seems to be a pretty good book. I think I will take Freaks advice on this also. With these two and Troy Tec. Good luck to you and if you come across anymore good study stuff let us know.
